Shopping Cart Commandos is a rather audacious comedy, set in the present day; it's the story of a group of eccentric young adults who have found an odd sort of "cause"... they seek out and rescue stray shopping carts. It is presented entirely as a mockumentary about moving past the true reality of things while still chasing after those elusive windmills... or in this case... shopping carts. Their lives begin to unravel as they struggle to survive in a competitive environment without realizing how their obsession affects all of the people closest to them. Like many "cause junkies" they each face the existential question: When is the time to move on? Just when it seems that they will be forced by family and external pressures to give up everything they have worked for, they meet two legendary documentary filmmakers and are quickly whisked into the spotlight. That encounter changes all of their lives profoundly— but in a very different way than they had originally anticipated. Shopping Cart Commandos is an odd film about big dreams and everyday routines, humiliating defeats and small triumphs... and the inexplicable optimism— some might call it delusion— that keeps us going, all that separates us and yet all that simultaneously and mysteriously connects us.
